Wow! I loved this bakery! We went to visit the area, and happened upon this bakery. There were all sorts of options to try: scones, cookies, cakes, croissants, donuts, etc. There wasn’t one dessert we tried that we didn’t like. The blueberry scone had to be my favorite though, well, and the chocolate croissant. Nothing was too sweet or too dry, the flavors were great! Staff was so nice. Would love to come back again!

OMG! What wonderful service! And what an incredible apple strudel!!! There was no over-promising here: Soft apples still with a chew, the flakiest of crusts with a hint of butter. We were blown away, and we’ll be back soon. Thank you Varrelmann’s!!!

I love Varrelmann's! This is a Rutherford staple that hasn't changed for good reason: why mess with perfection? They, of course, have the standard bakery fare of cakes, pies, and donuts that are delightful, but, you *really* want to go in for their butter cookies! They tout an old recipe, and for good reason! Come in and enjoy!

Wow, best key lime pie I've had in my life. Don't think I'd bother ordering from a restaurant ever again - I'm just kinda ruined.
Originally I was just looking for a pit stop to get a great French cruller - and Varrelmann's came up. And the cruller was very good. But the pie was just an after thought when I saw there was only 2 left in the display.
I also tried the cheese pastries, and those were solid. One was a bit thinner on the pastry part which I think was the better ratio.
The cheddar scones were sold out, but tried the orange cranberry. I didn't get a bite unfortunately, but the wife said it was good. She also got some freshly filled cannoli's.
Visited on Fathers day morning, so street parking was rough (maybe it's like that every weekend in Rutherford? My first time there.) But there was a garage around the corner that had some spots thankfully.
The shop itself has a very classic feel to it, complete with a functional old timey register (they do accept credit cards). There is also a small indoor table near the door, seems suited for kids to play and nibble at.
It's now my mission to find out what other killer offerings they have. Next time I'll actually remember to take photos before scarfing it all down, too.

Ordered a German Chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and buttercream icing. This was 2 days before Thanksgiving and I was able to pick it up on Thanksgiving morning... It was simply divine! This was my first experience with Varrelmann's and I will surely be going back to try everything else on the menu.

Varrelmann's Bake Shop, found on Park Avenue in downtown Rutherford, is one of those hidden gems that most people would simply pass by because it is practically hidden in the mass that is downtown Rutherford. It is however, one top notch bakery with tremendous items to offer. Their donuts, pastries, muffins and scones are super. I also found it refreshing to find, that even at 3 in the afternoon, they were still preparing fresh coffee, when most places would merely bang up their coffee dispenser. One more great plus; with more and more upscale coffee shops and bakery vendors appearing on the scenes along this stretch of town, it's a great relief to encounter a business that is comparatively easy on the wallet. I love this place.

This bakery is a landmark, German bakery with old school World charm family owns even though it has had multiple owners. I have been wanting to come here for a couple of years, but every time I passed by it was closed for vacation or I was too busy . I have to go blueberry danish, which was delicious. I bought 4 of cookies fall leaves and pumpkins. They were butter cookies, which were delicious. I also got the apple turnover which was scrumptious. Everything Was supreme. I definitely recommend this bakery. They have scones, which is the next thing I wanna buy that looks very yummy. The lady at the cash register was very friendly as the owner sister there was an older man sitting down very friendly and warm feelings here on top of great baked goods. This is a neighborhood bakery. I highly recommend coming here for some baked goods they have a various pies, apple pies, and different cakes. Everything Looked amazing.

We ordered from here unicorn-themed birthday cakes 2 years in a row and both were gorgeous and delicious! Party guests always comment in awe! And Cathy the baker is a genuinely kind and lovely person to work with, who cares about my event as much as I do. Strongly recommend them!

I was craving something sweet this morning and happened to walk by Varrelmann’s Bake Shop on Park Ave. I bought a couple things to share with my family, not thinking too much into it. When I got back home, I made my coffee and took a bite of the bread pudding. It was absolutely amazing!! Then I tried a piece of the lemon coconut scone, and it was the most buttery yummy thing ever! I literally stoped to write this review because I was so impressed by the quality. I can’t wait to go back for more.
